HELP!

So, I am not a very well travelled person- I grew up in a small town  with not a lot of money so the furthest I’d travelled (up until last year) was The Isle Of White (beautiful place though!) so last year I went to France (well Disneyland Paris to be exact, but I still left the country!) and to be honest just being in a different place where they speak a different language, have different food, and different buildings (I’m a weirdo, I like buildings) made me really want to see more of the world.

So, this is where I started planning a little bit (i’m not very good at this). I am going to LA at the end of February, and planning a cheap trip to Spain and possibly back to France too! But I need your help!

From reading a lot of your blogs it seems you’re all a bit travelled or have some sort of experience, well more so than me. So here is the favour I am asking you!

Where have you guys been and would recommend? Where can I go that it would be nice and cheap? What are things I should always remember when travelling? Any tips or tricks you can think of?

  1. If you like buildings, I would recommend to go to Barcelona. From there, you are VERY near the Costa Brava so you can go to the beach too, if that’s what you like.
    You can do a search on “Manzana de la Discordia” and take a look to see if you like those kind of buildings.
    I love traveling!!

        I did twice Europe by train. And then some traveling in my country (Argentina), Brazil and the US.
        I enjoy places very much but meeting people is for me the nicest part of the trip 🙂

      • Yep, that is in my little book of places to go now! Was it cheaper to do it by train did you find? What sort of places did you say at? I’ve been looking at hostels. Yeeeah, I would love to meet new people and learn about their lives in other countries. I would also love to learn a new language too!

      • I’m from Argentina so it was cheap for us to do it by train. You could buy there what’s called the Eurailpass. There is something similar sold in Europe (but I forgot the name right now).
        That ticket was valid for one month and all the trains (not the super speed ones) were included. Also boats and ferries to Scandinavia, UK and Ireland, Greece and Turkey.
        We slept in youth hostels and whatever we found. The big cities have the Information Point placed at the train station, so many times we could just ask for a list of cheap places to stay.
        I have no idea how it’s right now. I would say it’s easier in a way because you can book online and see availability right away… That was mostly the only problem we encountered when EVERYTHING was full.
        We ended up taking a night train to a city 8 hrs away just to sleep somewhere… And once we even slept on the street 😀 I’ll write about it soon!!

      • It’s a pleasure!! (Also if you have the chance to find in a library the “Lonely Planet” guides, they offer a lot of tips from the traveler’s points of view… And the most important thing these days if to check the reviews on EVERYTHING!!) 🙂

  2. Try Czech Republic, it’s definitely not too expensive but has tones of history in almost every town, Prague being not the only city worth visiting, beautiful landscape from flats to mountains, rather safe and small – easy to travel around.

      • Welcome! Everyone here says that Cesky Krumlov is the most beautiful town in the country, and if Czech say it – must be true 🙂

      • Get a translator app – not many people speak English, especially in smaller towns. You can easily travel by train here – the country is quite small, doesn’t take long from a to b. You can visit Prague, Brno (very cosy), Cesky Krumlov, Karlovy Vary (a spa town), go to the mountains (better to do it off season – still very pretty, but much cheaper), for example, to Spindleruv Mlyn.
        Oh, and try trdelniki – awesome awesome awesome pastry!!! It looks like a spring made out of soft dough and sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon. It’s good they don’t make them near where I live – I would’ve gained a ton by now.

  3. Assuming you’re flying from London, Morocco is a really great destination. Both RyanAir and EasyJet fly there for almost nothing in a few hours. Living is cheap. Food is cheap. Everything is cheap. The country is absolutely amazing.

    • Aw cool! Thank you! Yeah I no doubt would be flying from London, It’s just pretty easy that way. Do you know how good British Airways are? I am flying with them at end of Feb and haven’t really heard anything about them in the sense of how good they are or not!!

      • Depends! If you love beautiful beaches, you should visit Thailand! You can go Krabi or Phuket and then head over to Bangkok the city. Thrs too many nice and cheap food in Bangkok to try too!

      • Oh yes!! Do not go in May – June! Its monsoon season and I had a bad experience there! LOL. I wrote about it if you wanna read, in archives. The best time to go is Nov-Dec so that you can go island hopping and swim among the fishes. Most of the locals can speak basic English at least so a lot of foreigners love it there too. 🙂

  6. Kate, Since you live in the UK, if you have not been to Dublin I’d say try them out. I went there in 2010 and it was great…some of the friendliest people I have ever come across. In North America I have come to love Canada…have not been to a province there I did not like. The Atlantic provinces are wonderful, and Quebec City has a European city feel…a lot like Amsterdam.

    And now that I am thinking about it, I’d say Amsterdam would be very much worth a trip. You could probably take Eurostar train from London to France and then go to Amsterdam by train! The Rijksmuseum is fantastic.

    • Thanks! I haven’t been to Dublin! that is going on my list for sure! Sounds great!

      I was actually thinking of doing a Eurostar trip- basically going to everyplace the Eurostar goes! I think that would be quite fun!

      I am going to LA at the end of this month! Any hints and tips? 🙂
